Rivian Issues Service Bulletin For Ultrasonic Sensor Detachment On Some R1T And R1S Vehicles

Rivian has issued a technical service bulletin for some 2022-2024 R1T and R1S vehicles that may have ultrasonic sensors detach from the front fascia mounting area. According to the bulletin, if a sensor becomes detached, it may hang inside the front fascia and trigger customer notifications for sensor issues. In some cases, the sensor itself may also be damaged.

The bulletin, identified as RSB-86-26-001-1: Ultrasonic Sensor Repair, was dated May 18, 2026, and applies to affected vehicles in the United States.

This is a technical service bulletin, not a recall. That means it is generally handled when Rivian determines the bulletin applies to a specific vehicle or when an owner reports symptoms that match the condition.

Affected Vehicles

The bulletin lists the following affected vehicle information:

Item Details
Document Type Technical Service Bulletin
Bulletin Number RSB-86-26-001-1
Date May 18, 2026
Affected Region USA
Affected Models Rivian R1T and R1S
Model Years 2022-2024
Approximate Build Dates March 2022-April 2024
Vehicle System Driver Assistance

What Rivian Will Do

If ultrasonic sensor detachment is confirmed, Rivian will perform an ultrasonic sensor repair to secure the sensor to the front fascia.

The service procedure calls for removing the front bumper forward outer ultrasonic sensors on both sides of the vehicle and inspecting the removed components. If both sensors are undamaged, Rivian continues with the repair. If one or both sensors are damaged, the damaged sensor is replaced.

The bulletin then calls for removing existing tape, cleaning the sensor surfaces with isopropyl alcohol, applying 3M Automotive Adhesion Promoter 06396, and applying new 3M Automotive Acrylic Plus Premium Attachment Tape 06392 to the bracket before reinstalling the components.

Why This Matters

Ultrasonic sensors are a small part of the vehicle, but they can be important for low-speed driver assistance features, parking support, and proximity alerts.

The good news is that Rivian has a documented service procedure for inspecting the sensors, replacing damaged sensors if needed, and securing the sensor brackets to the front fascia.

What R1T And R1S Owners Should Do

If you own a 2022-2024 Rivian R1T or R1S, especially one built between March 2022 and April 2024:

  • Watch for front sensor or driver assistance notifications.
  • Pay attention to parking sensor behavior.
  • Look for repeated warnings that do not clear normally.
  • Visually inspect the parking sensors around the vehicle for any detachment.
  • If you receive sensor-related notifications or notice detachment, contact Rivian service.
  • Reference bulletin RSB-86-26-001-1 if the symptoms match.

Rivian notes that applicability should be confirmed through its TSB Guide Dashboard, so not every 2022-2024 R1T or R1S will necessarily be included.

EV Outdoors Take

If your vehicle is not showing any sensor warnings and your parking or driver assistance systems appear to be working normally, I would still visually inspect your sensors to see if they may be detached. If you notice detachment, start seeing repeated front sensor alerts, parking sensor issues, or driver assistance notifications, schedule service with Rivian right away.
